MEDFORD, Ore. — Oregon’s Emergency Board has approved a $1.4 million investment into a statewide emergency notification system.
The system will incorporate various local ones that are currently in use.
It will be up to local governments to structure their own notification systems.
“We need to have a notification system that helps people to understand what’s happening, where they are, what their risk is, what they need to do,” said Representative Pam Marsh. “So, I think we’re all at that place and I think some investment in a system like this is way justified.”
The system will use one platform and single alerting plan.
It will provide tools to local agencies so they can provide alerts through all phases of an emergency.
They system will also help different agencies communicate with one other during an incident.
“Hopefully we will not have an experience like we did on September 8th again,” Marsh said.
